I wanted to let you know a little more about myself and firstly, why I am relationship biased. I believe it is inherit, foundational and good for us all to be more skilled in our most important relationships. Of course, im not the only person to think this and there is overwhelming evidence around the impact of good relationships on our emotional, physical and mental health. Whether this is at home, with friends or in the workplace, functional relationships are a primary structure of our community and culture.
It’s been a rich tapestry of experience and a comprehensive journey of discovery to reach this point in my life. I And has included – like for many of us – the highs and lows of wellness. My experience ‘surviving’ 12 years as a front line police officer with the NSW police force, and recovering from PTSD, was foundational in shaping the type of man, partner, and father I wanted to – and hope I have – become. Since this time, my journey of recovery, growth, and opening has been life-changing. It is through these experiences, and an ongoing commitment to be the best version of myself, that I feel the excitement of my work providing opportunities for conscious and healthy relating every day.
I have been working with people and community for over 30 years and as a full-time therapist, clinical supervisor and group facilitator for the past 16 years. My reputed and respected practice melds creative, relational, psychotherapy methods with neurobiology and mindfulness practices, within a safe and healing environment. Over this time my work has included working with many couples, individuals and families and included training to other professionals and the community through partnerships with organisations like Gestalt therapy Brisbane, Relational Institute of Australia, Clearlight and Diabetes Queensland.
Perhaps most importantly, I have been with my beautiful partner for 18 years and have two wonderful children (now teenagers). The love and support from my partner, and the joy (and sometimes anguish) of being a Dad, has shaped my thirst for functional relationship, and passion as a father. I feel blessed for this expansive experience and how it filters through every aspect of my life.
My work has been reviewed on radio, television and in print. I have a Masters in Gestalt Therapy (completing a Lit Review on Attachment Theory and Couples Therapy), undergraduate studies in social science and welfare and specialised training in relationships, parenting and group facilitation including: Art of Relationship, Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples, Effective Group leadership, Trauma Informed Practice, Tuning into Kids/Teens and child consultation.
I am a Clinical member and Accredited Supervisor with PACFA and a member of ACRC and GANZ. These memberships guide and inform the ethics and professionalism I bring to my practice.
I hope we get to meet sometime…
